Culture
1
The Choir-Singers of Aura
A cultural tradition spanning all peoples — anyone who has heard Aura's full Chroma and returned with their mind intact is a Choir-Singer, carrying a permanent psionic harmonic mark that cannot be faked or suppressed. They are revered by pilgrims, claimed by the Choir, and surveilled by the Bureau.
Custom
1
The Ascended Chord
The nine minds from the First Pilgrimage who achieved perfect resonance with the Chroma and transcended their physical bodies, merging into Aura's crystal lattice. The Order calls them presences still within the moon; the Synod classifies them as casualties.
Factions
4
Bureau of Frequency Integrity
The Synod's feared psionic enforcement bureau — inquisitors and frequency-cancelers who hunt forbidden Chroma users, seize lunar dust, and ensure no unauthorized mind ever hears the frequencies the Empire has declared heretical.
The Cadence Path
A cell-based underground network of dust-addicted psionics who believe lunar dust is Aura's true gift — the raw, unfiltered song anyone can hear — spreading silently through the desperate margins of every world.
The Resonant Order
An ancient monastic order of Chroma pilgrims — guides and guardians of the Pilgrimage tradition, older than the Synod itself, increasingly torn between cooperation and resistance as the empire commodifies Aura's song.
The Sodality of Drifters
A loose brotherhood of independent salvage pilots and relic runners who navigate the void between the Synod's reach and the cartels' grip — salvaging derelict stations and pre-Schism Chroma artifacts for whoever pays.
Historical events
3
The First Pilgrimage
The original journey to Aura's surface by thirty-seven psionics centuries before the Synod's founding — the event that established the Chroma Pilgrimage and proved that direct exposure to the moon's song could trigger permanent psionic Ascension. Nine Ascended; fifteen founded the Resonant Order; thirteen died, their crystallized remains still visible in the spires.
The Silence Schism
The civil conflict tearing the Empire apart — triggered when the Synod suppressed a classified dossier proving Aura's song is fading, declared the evidence heretical, and pushed a fractured galaxy into open insurgency. Every faction's current posture traces back to a single choice: believe the song is dying, or deny it.
The Skae Dossier
The classified Bureau report proving Aura's song is measurably fading — the document the Synod buried, the Choir weaponized, and the Schism was fought over. Its author, analyst Veylin Skae, vanished after submitting it.
Item
1
Lunar Dust
Raw, unrefined fragments of Aura's crystal — crushed, burned, or injected for unstable psionic highs. It grants temporary powers to the ungifted but causes progressive nervous-system crystallization that is always fatal.
Landmarks
5
Aura, the Singing Moon
A sentient crystalline moon whose psionic hymn promises transcendence to pilgrims and raw power to the Synod's harvesters. Its surface is a labyrinth of resonant crystal spires that chime with every frequency of the Chroma.
The Lattice
A hollowed asteroid in the Cinder Marches containing a pre-Synod crystal lattice — an artificial echo of Aura's Resonant Spires, built by unknown hands. The Choir believes it could amplify forbidden frequencies; the Bureau wants it destroyed.
The Resonant Spires of Aura
Vast crystalline formations covering Aura's surface that chime with every Chroma frequency — the physical architecture of the moon's song and the only place in the galaxy where the full spectrum can be heard simultaneously. Pilgrims who reach their inner chambers risk Ascension or annihilation; Synod harvesters cut them apart for their radiance.
The Sundering
A psionically volatile nebula at the edge of the Cinder Marches where reality tears and reknits — the deeper you go, the more the Chroma distorts. Ships that venture too far sometimes come back changed, if they come back at all.
Vesper's World
A tidally-locked rogue planet in the Cinder Marches — its sunlit face a glassed desert of ancient pilgrim colonies, its dark side humming with the faintest echo of Aura's song, as if the Chroma reaches here across the void.
Magic
1
The Chroma
The full spectrum of psionic frequencies radiated by Aura. Each frequency sharpens a different mental faculty — telekinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance — and mastering them is the path to Ascension. But some frequencies have been declared forbidden by the Synod, and their use is punishable by death.
Religion
1
The Chroma Pilgrimage
The Empire's central spiritual rite — a journey to Aura's surface to experience the moon's psionic hymn firsthand. Pilgrims seek Ascension; the Synod seeks to control who hears the song.
