The civil conflict tearing the Empire apart — triggered when the Synod suppressed a classified dossier proving Aura's song is fading, declared the evidence heretical, and pushed a fractured galaxy into open insurgency. Every faction's current posture traces back to a single choice: believe the song is dying, or deny it.
The Silence Schism
The Schism began with a leaked report.
The Skae Dossier
Seven years ago, a senior Bureau of Frequency Integrity analyst named Veylin Skae compiled a classified dossier proving that Aura's resonant frequencies were measurably weakening — that every cycle of Synod harvesting permanently silenced a portion of the Chroma. Skae concluded that at current extraction rates, the moon's song would fall below the threshold needed to sustain FTL travel within two centuries. The psionic infrastructure of the entire Empire would collapse.
Skae submitted the dossier to the Prismatic Voice. The response was immediate: the dossier was classified Midnight Clearance (Synod leadership only), Skae was reassigned to a remote monitoring station, and a new internal directive — Frequency Decree 9 — ordered that any psionic claiming the song was weakening be charged with heresy.
The Leak
The dossier leaked anyway. Someone inside the Bureau — the Dissonant Choir claims it was Skae; the Bureau claims Skae was framed — distributed copies through the Cadence Path's echo-relay network. Within a cycle, every dust-den, drift ship, and Resonant Order chapter house had read it.
The Schism Crystallizes
The Schism's battle lines hardened overnight:
