The Visible Spectrum (Synod-Approved)
The Synod sanctions a curated selection of "safe" frequencies — tones that produce reliable, controllable psionic enhancement without destabilizing the user or the harmonic lattice. These include:
- Amber — telekinesis and physical force projection. The backbone of Synod construction and military applications.
- Rose — telepathy and emotional resonance. Used in Synod diplomacy, interrogation, and the Cadence Path's echo relays.
- Cerulean — clairvoyance and spatial navigation. Essential for FTL course-correcting through the void.
The Forbidden Frequencies
Certain frequencies were outlawed by the Synod centuries ago — declared too dangerous, too destabilizing, or too likely to trigger uncontrolled Ascension. These are the tones the Dissonant Choir has spent decades decoding:
- The Null Tone — pure psionic negation. Can silence another psionic's abilities entirely. The Bureau trains specialized "cancelers" in this tone in secret — even as they hunt others who use it.
- The Deep Chord — resonance with non-sentient matter. Users can commune with crystal, stone, and metal — the frequency the first Tone Seekers used to hear Aura's voice in the moon itself.
- The Shatter — a destructive frequency that breaks down the boundary between psionic energy and physical matter. It is the frequency that powers lunar dust's reality-warping effects — and the one most likely to crystallize the user's nervous system.
The Unheard
The deepest mystery of the Chroma is simple: no one has ever heard the full spectrum simultaneously and retained the ability to describe it. The Resonant Order's oldest texts claim there are frequencies beyond the known spectrum — tones that only become audible when the mind has been prepared by hearing all others first. They call this hypothetical summit The Unheard, and it is the true goal of every genuine Pilgrim.
