The Synod's enforcement arm — the Bureau exists to ensure that no unauthorized mind ever hears the frequencies the Empire has declared forbidden. Part intelligence agency, part inquisition, part research division.
Methods
The Bureau operates through three divisions:
- The Censors — psionic interrogators who can detect forbidden frequency exposure in another mind. They staff every Synod spaceport and pilgrimage checkpoint.
- The Null Choir — elite frequency-cancelers trained in the Null Tone. They can suppress another psionic's abilities entirely — the Bureau's weapon against Choir operatives and dust-enhanced insurgents.
- The Acquisition Division — agents who track and seize lunar dust shipments. Their seizures feed Synod research labs, making the Bureau both the dust trade's greatest enemy and its largest customer.
The Skae Paradox
The Bureau's founding analyst, Veylin Skae, compiled the dossier that triggered the Silence Schism. Whether Skae leaked the dossier willingly or was framed remains unknown. The Bureau's current leader, Prefect-Magister Dolan Skae, is Veylin's son — and his appointment is widely seen as either the Synod's insult or its apology.
