The Resonant Order

Faction · The Chroma Pilgrimage

Back to world

An ancient monastic order of Chroma pilgrims — guides and guardians of the Pilgrimage tradition, older than the Synod itself, increasingly torn between cooperation and resistance as the empire commodifies Aura's song.

The Resonant Order

The Resonant Order predates the Synod by centuries, founded by the fifteen survivors of the First Pilgrimage. They are guides, judges, and guardians — the keepers of the Pilgrimage's rites and the closest thing the Chroma has to a neutral authority.

The Order's Internal Crisis

The Silence Schism has fractured the Order more deeply than any external conflict. Grand Resonant Tehillah Aunn — herself a Choir-Singer who has felt the Fading Song firsthand — maintains a perilous neutrality, insisting the Order must guide pilgrims, not fight wars. But a third of her members defected to the Dissonant Choir in the Schism's early years, and those who remain are increasingly polarized between cooperation with the Synod (to preserve access to Aura) and open resistance.

The Outer Spires

The Order maintains waystation-monasteries in the outer ring of the Resonant Spires — the only structures on Aura's surface the Synod has (reluctantly) agreed not to harvest. Here, prospective pilgrims are evaluated, prepared, and guided toward the deeper chambers. The Order's monks are the last gatekeepers between ordinary psionics and the full Chroma.
