The foundational spell-framework woven into Duskward's earth and architecture is decomposing: its underlying logic fractured, its components failing in unpredictable cascades, spawning areas of warped reality called "glitch-zones."
Before the Fall, Duskward's founders buried a colossal binding-spell into the bedrock, its logic interwoven through every tower, road, and seasonal mechanism. For six centuries it held flawlessly, creating a coherent realm where magic and law reinforced one another.
But logic, once broken, does not mend cleanly. The Shattered Logic now degrades in recursive waves: a tower's support-spell fails, which cascades into nearby wards, which unravel into ambient magic, which warps the land into unpredictable shapes. In the worst zones, the rules of reality itself become negotiable—distances shift, time stutters, matter phases between forms.
The worst manifestations are the glitch-zones, regions where the spell-fabric is so corrupted that only creatures born of the corruption (the Glitch Swarm) can navigate safely. Mages argue endlessly whether the decay can be stopped, reversed, or—worse—weaponized.
The Threadbare Collective trades in artifacts from these zones. The Rust Wardens map them obsessively. The Council hoards fragments of the original spell-logic, trying to understand what broke.
